About Me

I’ve been a writer for a long time, working in the S-F and fantasy genres. I had two stories published in magazines in the 90s and tried to sell a novel, but in spite of some positive feedback, nobody bought it.

Real life intervened and I put the writing aside, but in 2011 I took early retirement and so have time for a second career. I now have two works available on Kindle; a novella, No Earthly Shore, and a collection of short stories, The Dragon, Fly. I did self-publish that old S-F novel, then it was accepted by Pro Se Press and came out in new e-book and print versions in January 2014. Two sequels have followed, With Amber Tears in December 2015, and StarChild at the end of 2017. There are also two S-F/detective novellas, The Spook and the Spirit in the Stone and Dead Men Rise Up Never, both also from Pro Se. I also have short stories in various anthologies from Nightscape Press, Pro Se Press, 18thWall Productions and Airship 27.

My next project is Warbird, a long space opera. I’m self-publishing this one and hope to get it done by November 2018. The Beauty of Our Weapons, fourth in the ongoing Anna & Zenni saga, is also due out soon.

I write S-F with a bias towards the biological sciences (my day job was in microbiology) and usually a hint of humour. I tend to have female protagonists and like working in first person.

When I’m not writing, I like to make stuff. I’ve dabbled in a lot of crafts, but the current ones are knitting and making jewellery. I’m fascinated by tarot and have a largish collection of decks. I also collect glass – press-moulded candlesticks by Davidson and Bagley, and perfume bottles by modern artists – Richard Golding at Okra, Jonathan Harris and Siddy Langley. I like folk music, particularly electric folk – Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention – and also singer-songwriters such as Melanie, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot and Neil Young.
